Sob a égide da obra homónima
de Walter Benjamin (datada de 1928), e à imagem da sua estrutura de natureza
livre e fragmentária, concebeu-se uma exposição que apresenta uma seleção de
obras da Coleção da Fundação de Serralves em articulação, no espaço proposto
para a mostra, com um pequeno conjunto de obras oriundas de outros contextos.
Com base na sua prática
regular do apontamento, da anotação, da deriva, da relação com o lugar, com o
espaço e no reconhecimento do seu eu através do seu posicionamento em relação a
esse espaço, Walter Benjamin constrói a obra a partir da compilação,
devidamente editada e seguindo uma sequência determinada, das suas impressões
acerca da relação com o lugar e o espaço da cidade na sua condição de flanêur.
Nesta medida, e trazendo
para a prática da curadoria esta ideia estruturante da edição (da edição de
notas, da edição de um texto) e assimilando-a no contexto da exposição e da sua
relação com o espaço, pretende-se, através da criação de pequenos núcleos de
obras distribuídas pelas várias salas, privilegiar um conjunto de relações de
caráter concetual e formal e potenciar naturalmente o surgimento de outros possíveis
territórios de relação.
Assumindo e sublinhando
ainda o registo das notas de Benjamin (a que já fizemos referência), marcado
por uma certa espontaneidade inerente ao seu papel de livre pensador e
investigador, e considerando o alargamento da exposição ao território físico da
performatividade, está também contemplada a apresentação de dois projetos a
operar nos campos da música e da poesia.
This exhibition has been
conceived under the aegis of the homonymous work by Walter Benjamin (“One Way
Street”, 1928), and aims to mirror its free and fragmentary structure. It
features a selection of interlinked works from the Serralves Foundation’s
Collection that will be displayed in the exhibition space, together with a small
group of works from other contexts.
Walter Benjamin maintained a
regular habit of note-taking, annotation, digression, in order to explore the
relationship with setting and space and recognition of the self through its
positioning in relation to this space. In this manner, and in his capacity as a
flâneur (stroller), he built his work through a carefully sequenced and edited
process of compilation of his impressions concerning the relationship with the
setting and space of the city. Transporting this structural idea of editing
(editing notes, editing a text) to the practice of curating and assimilating
this idea in the context of an exhibition and its relationship with space, the
objective herein is to emphasise a set of conceptual and formal relations and
thus naturally foster the appearance of other possible fields of relationship,
by creating small sets of works distributed across various rooms.
Assuming and also
underlining Benjamin’s process of note-taking (as referred to above), marked by
a certain spontaneity inherent to his role as a free thinker and researcher,
and considering extension of the exhibition to the physical territory of
performance art, this exhibition also contemplates the presentation of two
projects - in the fields of music and poetry.

This programme from
Serralves is integrated within the project, "First Avenue - Social and
Economic Promotion of Porto’s Baixa zone," is a partnership between Porto
Municipal Council (via Porto Lazer), and Porto Vivo SRU, co-financed by the
Thematic Territorial Enhancement Operational Programme of the National
Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), via the European Regional Development Fund.
